The Islanders got several good looks late in Wednesday night’sGame 4at Barcalys Center, but they couldn’t punch one more past Panthers’ netminder Roberto Luongo as Florida won, 2-1. The best-of-seven first round series is now tied, 2-2.

Kyle Okposogot a good look at the net with 43 seconds remaining with a slap shot from the point and there was a sea of humanity in front of the Florida net as time expired but Luongo stood firm.

Luongo finished with 26 saves while New York’s Thomas Greiss turned away 27 Panthers shots.

Florida scored its first goal of the night on a power play in the second period (15:18) with Teddy Purcell picking up the score. Jaromir Jagr and Aaron Ekblad were credited with assists. The Isles quickly responded with their own power-play goal as John Tavares picked up his third goal of the playoffs at the 19:44 minute mark of the second. Ryan Pulock and Brock Nelson grabbed the assists.

Alex Petrovic’s strike proved to be the difference for Florida as his goal at the 9:25 mark of the third period was the final score of the night.

The series now shifts back to Florida as the two teams will meet again on Friday (8 p.m., MSG+, CNBC).
