It’s all over: Rangers’ season ends in painful shootout loss to Flyers

1 Sudden death, literally — Philadelphia’s Claude Giroux beat Henrik Lundqvist through the five-hole in yesterday’s shootout, then Brian Boucher stacked his pads to stop Olli Jokinen’s backhander to send the Flyers to the playoffs and the Rangers home. “It’s just really hard,” Lundqvist said.

2 Not great enough — Lundqvist stopped 46 of 47 Philadelphia shots, beaten only by Matt Carle’s third-period power-play rebound. Jody Shelley put the Rangers up, 1-0, 3:27 into the game, but like it’s been all season, the Rangers just couldn’t put enough pucks on the net. The Blueshirts mustered just 25 shots.

3 Too little, too late — The Rangers won seven of their first eight to start the season, then closed with a rush, going 7-1-2. It wasn’t enough, though, as the Rangers missed the playoffs for the first time since 2004.
