As if the Red Sox needed another reason to win today, it’s Johnny Pesky’s birthday.
The former player and manager and current institution is 92 today.
Pesky, born Sept. 27, 1919, in Portland, Ore., played eight seasons for Boston, collecting 1,277 hits and batting .313. He managed the Sox in 1963, ’64 and ’80, and had his No. 6 retired in 2008.
