It’s poppy time once again

A different sea of red is about to hit Calgary as poppies began being distributed yesterday.

People can start picking up these Remembrance Day symbols now, while the official nationwide campaign kicks off Saturday.

“We are hoping to get one per person out there,” said George Bittman, chariman of the Calgary Poppy Fund.

Like last year, the Poppy Fund will be distributing about a million poppies to locations throughout the city.

“Poppies are being distributed as we speak,” said Bittman.

Poppies are donation based as always and the money goes to assist veterans, and their families with medical, shelter, and food.

They also act as a symbol to remind people of the sacrifice veterans have made to our country.
