Bedford’s Ante Jazic was singled out for a strong effort after the Canadian senior men’s soccer team lost 1-0 to Jamaica in a season-opening friendly in Kingston on Sunday.
Jazic, a veteran pro who currently plays for Major League Soccer’s Chivas USA, started at left back alongside fellow defenders Dejan Jakovic, Andre Hainault and Eddie Sidra.
“I thought Ante Jazic and Dejan Jakovic were exceptional,” said Canadian head coach Stephen Hart, who is also from Halifax. “They got through a lot of work.”
The 33-year-old has battled back from a variety of injuries to work his way back onto the national team. It was his first international competition since June 4, 2008.
“It was a good experience for the young guys,” said Jazic after his 25th cap with Team Canada.
“Moving forward with Stephen Hart I like this squad’s chances for success.”
