A pilot was allegedly under the influence of alcohol during at least one flight from Orlando to New York City last year.

Dennis Murphy Jr. was busted after being randomly selected for an alcohol test on April 21, 2015, according to published reports.

At that point, Murphy had piloted two flights between the cities already, for a combined total of 270 passengers, ABC News stated.

Murphy’s “‘face was red and he was chewing gum rapidly’ on the way to the testing office, the complaint said. After allegedly blowing an 0.111 and a 0.091, he asserted the results ‘must have been caused by the gum,'” the technician said, according to ABC and the complaint it cited.

HIs co-pilot also observed him “drinking an unknown beverage from a cup” before one flight and during both, CBS2 reported.

Murphy had only been hired by the airline that January, and resigned from JetBlue before a disciplinary hearing last May, CBS said. He was set to be arraigned Wednesday afternoon in federal court in Brooklyn.
