FLORHAM PARK, N.J. – La’el Collins could have been a New York Jet.

It was one of the craziest and most surreal storylines of of the NFL Draft and one that could have had him landing in New Jersey as a member of the Jets. After Collins, the LSU star offensive lineman, failed to get drafted by any team in last week’s NFL Draft, he ended up getting signed as an undrafted rookie free agent with the Dallas Cowboys. This came after 29 teams called and inquired about his services.

The Jets were one of those teams interested in making him a contract offer.

“The Jets inquired about La’el Collins along with 29 other teams. Every single team was required to meet our criteria for the contract. The Jets were one of the teams willing to do so,” Deryk Gilmore, Collins’ agent, told Metro. Gilmore is with the agency Priority Sports.

“We just didn’t feel it was a good fit at the end of the day.”

Collins, of course, saw his draft stock fall days before a first round where he was thought to be a possible top 10 selection. He was wanted for questioning in the death of Brittney Mills, his ex-girlfriend who was pregnant at the time.

Signs seem to be pointing towards Collins getting his name cleared and being able to play sooner rather than later. Earlier this week, the Cowboys signed Collins to a three-year, $1.65 million contract per reports.

But it could have been with the Jets.
