The Jets lost one coach on Sunday, just not the one many thought would go.

It was announced head coach Rex Ryan would return after Sunday’s win at the Dolphins, but they will lose one part of their staff as linebacker coach Brian VanGorder is set to take the defensive coordinator position at Notre Dame.

A source tells Metro New York that VanGorder has accepted the position with the Fighting Irish, who beat Rutgers in the Pinstripe Bowl at Yankee Stadium on Saturday afternoon

VanGorder takes the position vacated by Bob Diaco, who left to become head coach at UConn.

He was with the Jets for one season after being fired from Auburn as their defensive coordinator in 2012.

He took over a rebuilt linebacker corps that lost long-time contributors Bart Scott and Bryan Thomas this offseason. Young linebackers, including Demario Davis and Garrett McIntyire, responded well to his aggressive coaching style.
