The Jets, who were hampered by secondary issues all of last season, made three signings on Thursday to bolster their depth in the backend.

The team re-signed cornerbacks Ellis Lankster and Darrin Walls and claimed another cornerback, Johnny Patrick, off waivers from the Chargers.

Walls played in all 16 games for the Jets last year including three starts. He registered a career-high 18 tackles and four passes defended.

Lankster, arguably one of the best flankers on special teams in the NFL, stepped into a more prominent role on the Jets’ two-deep over the past two seasons with a combined 57 tackles over that stretch. But his greatest value to the Jets is on special teams where he has versatility on punt and kickoff coverage.

He missed the last game of the year due to a dental injury but he’s become a valuable member of the team’s secondary as well.

Patrick played in 13 games for the Chargers last year but finished the season on injured reserve with an ankle ailment. He had a career-high 36 tackles last year in addition to his first career interception. The Chargers waived him on Wednesday.
