Jets release 2015 training camp info

HANOVER, N.J. – For the first time since the NFL strike in 2011, the New York Jets will be hosting the entirety of training camp at their facility in Florham Park. The team announced on Thursday that the camp will open on July 30.

Players will report to Atlantic Health Jets Training Center on July 29and then will convene practice the next day.

Highlights of camp include the Green & White Scrimmage, to be held this year on Aug. 11 at MetLife Stadium and then the annual trip to Long Island where the team will hold a camp session at Hofstra on Aug. 23. Camp concludes four days later on Aug. 27.

For five of the past six seasons, the Jets have traveled to Cortland, NY in the upstate area north of Albany for training camp under then head coach Rex Ryan. The only exception to this annual pilgrimage was the aforementioned 2011 season where the late resolution of the NFL strike pushed back training camp and the Jets opted to host in their own facility for ease and comfort.

That year coincided with the Jets going 8-8 and missing out on the playoffs after making it to the AFC Championship Game the previous two seasons.

Now under a new head coach coach in Todd Bowles, the team is opting to stay close to their home base.

Unlike years past where the vast majority of Jets fans couldn’t make training camp due to the long hike to upstate New York, this year’s camp should be far more friendly for commuters. The facility is located about 40 minutes west of Manhattan and is smack in the middle of Morris County, a central location for north Jersey fans as well.
