Jets sign troubled corner Aaron Berry

Coming off a 34-0 home loss to the 49ers, the Jets addressed one issue yesterday — even if it wasn’t the most pressing.

The Jets signed cornerback Aaron Berry to help a depleted secondary, but now they have to hope their new lockdown corner keeps from getting locked up.

Berry comes to the Jets with a troubled past, including two arrests in a month’s span this past summer. But he is a talented player.

The Jets decided to take the gamble, despite him having been driven out of Detroit.

“We feel that Aaron has the chance to be successful on and off the field here,” head coach Rex Ryan said. “If we didn’t believe that, we wouldn’t bring him here.”

In 11 games last year in Detroit including three starts, Berry had 31 tackles and 11 passes defended.

According to reports, Berry signed a two-year deal. Ryan said “it was too early to tell” how Berry would fit into the defense and when he will be ready to step onto the field.

“I think he has the physical skill set we look for in our corners,” Ryan said.
