There’s a lot of confusion coming from the Jets over rookie wide receiver Quincy Enunwa, who was arrested for simple assault this past Sunday night. According to TMZ, Enunwa pled not guilty earlier this week on charges he shoved his girlfriend, an incident that occurred at the team’s hotel.
A sixth-round pick in this past May’s NFL Draft, Enunwa was signed to the practice squad this past Sunday, hours before his arrest. The timetable of when the Jets knew about the arrest is unclear, according to head coach Rex Ryan.
“I don’t know the specifics. The days are kind of running together,” Ryan said on Thursday. “This is something we take very seriously obviously. We’re aware of it and again I’m not going to comment further on details because it is a pending legal matter.
“Again, there’s different things but obviously there’s a big difference between being allegedly charged or whatever and being convicted. Again, I’m not going to get into what-ifs.”
The NFL is clamping down on domestic violence in light of the highly publicized incident involving Ravens running back Ray Rice this offseason. The NFL announced a six-game suspension for first-time offenders just last week. As such, the increased penalties and greater media scrutiny means the Jets must tread lightly on the issue, even if it was a draft pick who was involved.
Ryan originally responded “yes” when asked if they knew about the incident before they put the rookie on the practice squad. But Ryan backpedalled like a Darrelle Revis when asked a follow-up question.
“I said that before about the practice squad, I can’t really remember the time. I’ve been so focused on the Raiders,” Ryan said. “I don’t want to get into the specifics of it. I don’t want to give you false information. Quite honestly I don’t remember if it was before the practice squad [signing] or not.”

»Safety-turned-cornerback Antonio Allen practiced in full following a concussion two weeks ago in the third game of preseason. Allen has been a full-go in practice this week and looks likely to get the start on Sunday in the season opener against the Raiders.
»Safety Josh Bush (quadricep) did not practice and linebacker Nick Bellore (calf), a special teams ace, was limited for a second straight day.
»As for cornerback Dee Milliner, all evidence points to the cornerback not playing on Sunday, but the Jets aren’t ready to rule him out. Milliner suffered a high ankle sprain early in preseason and hasn’t practiced this week.
“Not going to say that, not going to say that because you never say never. You give a guy an opportunity. He’s been with us awhile. He knows the system,” Ryan said. “Even if it’d be in a limited role, if we think he can help us and he’s healthy, then that’s why I don’t want it to go out there.”
