1. Many of the Jets are beat up
It wasn’t an overly physical game for the Jets starters last Monday night, but a number of key contributors will likely not play against Cincinnati.
On Thursday, following the morning walkthrough, head coach Rex Ryan ruled out Brandon Moore and hinted that Sione Pouha and Bart Scott will be watching from the sidelines.
“I’m going to be cautious with them,” Ryan said.
Third-round pick Kenrick Ellis should get extra snaps with Pouha out.
2. Plaxico Burress will make his debut
The re-signing of wide receiver Santonio Holmes may have been more flashy, but the Plaxico Burress signing might be more important to the team’s offense this season.
Burress, with his tall, powerful build, is a force in the red zone — where the Jets’ scoring offense ranked 30th in the league last year. His ability to get enough separation inside the 20-yard-line is the reason the Jets signed Burress fresh out of prison. Let’s see how he works with Mark Sanchez.
3. Jets’ opponents to spread ‘em
With Burress now healthy, the Jets have a problem most offensive coordinators would be jealous of — three No. 1-type receivers.
Burress can count Santonio Holmes and Derrick Mason among the veteran receiving corps to whom Sanchez will throw the ball. But are there enough passes to go around from a quarterback who last year had just a 54 percent completion rate?
