Jets vs. Jaguars: 3 storylines to watch

1. Can they stop Maurice Jones-Drew?

Two years ago, in a physical 24-22 home loss to the Jaguars, the Jets had no answers for Maurice Jones-Drew.

The running back ran for 123 yards and a touchdown, infamously stopping short of the goal line on a nine-yard run late in the game. Without a timeout, the Jets watched as the clock kept moving and Jacksonville kicked the game-winner as time expired.

The Jets must limit the Jaguars’ ground game and close any lanes for Jones-Drew, because he is the catalyst of their offense.

2. Jets must focus on own ground attack

It’s not good when your two featured running backs combine for just 42 yards rushing as they did Sunday night.

This is a team that all training camp had claimed it would continue to be “Ground & Pound,” but throughout preseason and now Week 1, the running game has lagged behind the rest of the offense.

In Sunday’s win, the Jaguars allowed just 43 yards to the Tennessee backfield. They’ll stack the box this Sunday too.

3. The Jets will remember the Titans

No, not the movie and certainly not the team that Jacksonville beat in Week 1.

The Jets will be wearing their AFL throwback uniforms this week, with the New York Titans color scheme and logo. The green-clad Jets nation might cringe, but the Jets hope it continues a positive trend.

“Let me just explain it to you this way — we are 4-1 in those blue uniforms, so anything for a win,” Ryan said.
