JFK Airport reopened after suspicious package prompted evacuation

After evacuating a portion of John F. Kennedy Airport to investigate a report of a suspicious package, police have reopened the terminal.

Around 9:30 a.m. on Wednesday, authorities reopened Terminal 5 after an hourlong evacuation started when a bomb-sniffing dog got a bad read from a bag in the area, the New York Daily News reported. A bomb squad determined that the bag did not contain explosives.

At approximately 8:30 a.m., the suspicious bag in the Terminal 5 departure area led to an investigation by Homeland Security, ABC7 reported. The portion of the terminal near the bag and the adjacent roadways were closed.
