Jim Carrey blasted for portrait of Sarah Huckabee Sanders

Jim Carrey Paintings: Actor criticized for Sarah Huckabee Sanders portrait

Jim Carrey paintings usually create a buzz online because they are filled with striking detail, but his recent painting of Sarah Huckabee Sanders is quickly going viral.

The 56-year-old Hollywood actor painted a portrait of an angry-looking woman that appears to be in the likeness of White House Press Secretary Sarah Huckabee Sanders. He posted the picture to Twitter Saturday night.

“This is the portrait of a so-called Christian whose only purpose in life is to lie for the wicked. Monstrous!,” he wrote in the caption.

He did not mention her name in the tweet, but if you look at the painting next to a photo of Sarah Huckabee Sanders, you can see where he received his inspiration for the portrait painting. A spokeswoman told the Associated Press that Jim Carrey did paint the portrait but did not confirm if it was Sarah Sanders Huckabee in the depiction.

The Jim Carrey painting received more than  13,000 comments and 49,000 likes on Twitter.

While he received thousands of responses about the painting, some agreeing with his point of view and others describing the Jim Carrey painting as “unflattering,” many Twitter users are criticizing Carrey for calling Sarah Huckabee Sanders a “so-called Christian” in the picture caption. Some people took to Twitter to question the actor’s relevancy and saying he hasn’t made a good film in years. At least one took things a step further and taunted him about his girlfriend, who committed suicide.

Gov. Mike Huckabee responds

Former Arkansas Governor Mike Huckabee and father of Sarah Huckabee Sanders responded to the Jim Carrey tweet, calling him a “Christophobe” and criticizing him for attacking his daughter’s faith and starting the hashtag #classlessCarrey in response to Carrey’s viral tweet.

This isn’t the first time Jim Carrey paintings caused a stir in the political arena.

In November 2017, Carrey tweeted a picture he made of President Trump kissing the rear end of Russian President Vladimir Putin, using the hashtag #PuckerUpPOTUS.

In February, Jim Carrey painted a picture of Marco Rubio with blood on his hands. “Rubio‘s agenda is clear. Keep taking millions from the NRA and wash the blood of innocent children off his hands. Apparently $3.3 million is the price of this politician’s soul.”

Carrey did pay a tribute to the late Stephen Hawking, by painting a picture of the world-renowned physicist sitting in his wheelchair.

“Cheers to you Stephen Hawking, the greatest mental athlete of our time. You are all that is! See you around, buddy,” the actor and painter wrote.
