Jiminez could delay suspension

The CFL has slapped Jason Jimenez with a one-game suspension, but don’t be surprised if the big right tackle suits up this Sunday. Jimenez has the right to appeal, and that process might not be complete by the weekend. Even if it is,

Jimenez can then ask for an arbitrator to rule on the situation, which would take even longer.

• While the Calgary Stampeders would have provided a formidable opponent, having Saskatchewan in town for the West final is, in fact, the best-case scenario. Riders’ fans travel better than anyone and will sport their true colours in hopes of firing up the Green Machine this Sunday. That’s good news for Lions’ owner David Braley, who should get an even better gate with the Roughies on hand.

And if you’re looking for edge, there will be plenty. The last meeting between these two teams produced an ejection, a suspension, large fines and a war of words between the respective coaches and GMs. Oh yeah, it also produced one of the best football games of the year with the Lions winning 37-34 on a 33-yard touchdown pass to Geroy Simon on a third down gamble in the final minute.

The battle lines have been drawn and it should be a very interesting week leading up to Sunday’s showdown.

• If someone would have told you that the Canucks would be 2-6 on home ice to start the season, you probably would have been thinking about next year’s draft class instead of the playoffs.

But Vancouver’s ability to win divisional games early in the season has the Canucks sitting third in the Northwest despite the terrible start at the Garage. The Canucks have won all six games with their biggest rivals and take a three-game winning streak into tomorrow’s tilt with the Oilers.

Not surprisingly, Roberto Luongo has been the first or second star in all three of those wins. Any more questions as to who will determine the Canucks’ fate this year?
