Joining the 27 Club

From Kurt Cobain to the awesome guitar playing of the legendary Jimi Hendrix, these people had it all: The fame, fortune and the adorning fans.

And they all died at the age of 27.

Behind some successful musicians who made it big lie some very strong addictions. For some, it was a battle that just was too strong to overcome and they ultimately paid the price for it. On July 23, Amy Winehouse, famous for her second album “Rehab,” was found dead in her London home due to an apparent overdose.

As an Amy Winehouse fan, I was really sad to learn that she had died so suddenly.

My friends and I were gathered around listening to some of her music, even some of them were saying that she should create a new album and a new life. We wanted to her free from the drugs and alcohol and longer bashed in the media as out of it drug addict.

People told me that I was crazy for idolizing her because of her frequent drug use and her behavior. But, I didn’t see that when I listened to her music: I saw a woman struggling to make a name for herself. She didn’t care what people thought of her, and she just wanted to make music.

She was a music genius and I will always remember her that way.
