Jon-Rae tones it down

Jon-Rae Fletcher has an interesting way to spend his time during his long hike through the trails around Cape Chignecto.

“I’ve found myself actually going over scenes from the Terminator in my head,” said the lead singer of Jon-Rae and The Rivers.

“We did a two day hike. It’s breathtaking, you are on these huge capes and it is beautiful.”

Fletcher is wrapping up his trek through the Nova Scotia countryside — an excursion recommended to him by a member of the Ghost Bees — with a show at Hell’s Kitchen tonight.

While his performances with The River are known for their enjoyable live shows — with its blend of country, gospel, rock, and soul – the singer is going it solo this time.

“I have actually started to take more of a toned down approach,” he said. “It is just me with an acoustic guitar, so I focus more on my singing. I am focusing more on that than just rocking out and screaming.”

Fletcher said he will be going into the studio with a member of the Ladyhawks when he gets back to British Columbia and start work on a new album of his songs.

“It is going to be a nice, toned down album,” he said.
