Josh Beckett in Hub to test injured ankle

The Red Sox lost to the Blue Jays, 1-0, in 11 innings yesterday.

That wasn’t the worst part of their afternoon.

Ace right-hander Josh Beckett left the game with two outs in the fourth inning after spraining his ankle on a delivery. He’s scheduled to return to Boston today to have the joint checked by foot specialist Dr. George Theodore.

“I’ve never had it happen before,” Beckett said. “It’s something in my ankle. I’m not sure what.”

If the injury is anything serious, the timing could not be much worse for the Sox. Just 22 games separate them from the playoffs, and they’re 2.5 back of the Yankees in the AL East.
