U.S. head coach Jurgen Klinsmann would not say for sure this past weekend whether or not injured star striker Jozy Altidore would be available for Tuesday’s game against Belgium (4 p.m., ESPN), but remained “hopeful.”
“Every day is a big step forward with Jozy,” Klinsmann said. “We are optimistic we’ll have him be a part of the Belgium game.”
The forward did not participate in soccer-related activities at practice Saturday, according to reports, and was simply seen jogging during the session.
Klinsmann may opt to not start Altidore Tuesday but have him available off the bench.
