July heat kills 8 people

A total of eight people have died of heat exposure due to extreme temperatures in the city this month, according to the New York City Medical Examiner’s Office.

A 67-year-old Queens man died of hyperthermia on Friday when temperatures reached 96 degrees, The Associated Press reported.

The deaths of two Brooklyn women on Saturday, ages 61 and 82, were also caused by hyperthermia.

The Medical Examiner’s Office reported earlier that a 78-year-old Brooklyn man died of hyperthermia on Friday and a 57-year-old Staten Island man died on July 8 when temperatures reached 89 degrees.

Details on the other deaths were not released. A spokeswoman for the Medical Examiner’s Office said all the victims had underlying medical problems.
