Just for Laughs lineup star-studded

Jimmy Fallon will practise warming up audiences ahead of his upcoming Late Night talk show gig as he hosts a comedy gala during Toronto’s Just for Laughs Festival this summer.

Organizers announced Tuesday that Fallon, a mop-topped former SNL cast member who is to replace Conan O’Brien on Late Night next year, will headline a show at Massey Hall during the festival, which runs July 23 to July 27.

SCTV alumnus Martin Short of Hamilton and Jason Alexander of Seinfeld fame will also helm galas at Massey Hall during the festival, which is into its second year and stems from Montreal’s long-running Just for Laughs summer event.

Craig Robinson, who plays Darryl Philbin on the American version of The Office, will perform at Fallon’s show, as will Montreal native Sugar Sammy and Toronto duo the Doo-Wops.

Short’s showcase has a lineup of Newfoundland and Labrador star Shaun Majumder, Australian talent Adam Hills and American comedians Elon Gold and Joey Kola.

On Alexander’s docket is Toronto-based Gerry Dee of Last Comic Standing, as well as notable American actor-comedians Jeff Ross, Kevin Hart and American stand-up sensation Wendy Liebman.

The festival also features a concert from American ventriloquist Jeff Dunham, two ethnic-themed shows (The Asian Invasion and Wiseguys), a club series that includes talent from the galas and free outdoor programming.
