Katz Group OKs delay to zoning proposal

The Katz Group has agreed to put a halt on a June public hearing for the zoning proposal portion of the arena and entertainment district project. Scott Mackie, manager of the current planning branch for the city said the hearing was postponed because they simply need more time to mesh the application with the city’s downtown redevelopment plan.

“The Katz Group and the city of Edmonton have agreed that the arena and entertainment district rezoning that was tentatively going to a public hearing on June 28 will be delayed,” Mackie said. “The city will continue to work with the Katz Group on the application and a new date for the application to come before city council will be set later.”

Since the application was received, Mackie said the city and the Katz Group have been reviewing and assessing the proposal for compliance with city regulations, policies and plans.

“Delaying the public hearing will add value to the process as it will allow us to continue working with the applicant to more completely flesh out the proposal,” he said. “It will create opportunity for additional public and community involvement and provides opportunities … to explore the many aspects of the proposal.”
