Kellyanne Conway committed violation with ‘free commercial’ for Ivanka Trump brand

Senior White House adviser KellyanneConwaycommitted a “clear violation” of ethics rules when she gaveIvankaTrump’s clothing line a “free commercial” on Fox News last week, the federal government’s ethics officer said in a letter released Tuesday.

“I recommend that the White House investigate Ms. Conway’s actions and consider taking disciplinary action against her,” Office of Government Ethics director Walter Shaub wrote in Monday’s letter, which was tweeted out by Democrats on the House oversight committee.

Conway misused her position as an adviser to President Donald Trump to market the private brand of his daughter, Shaub said.

Appearing in her official capacity on a segment on Fox News on Feb. 9, Conway endorsed Ivanka Tump’s clothing line, which Nordstrom’s and several other major retailers decided to stop selling.

“This is just a wonderful line. I own some of it. I’m going to give a free commercial here. Go buy it today everybody, you can find it online,” she said, appearing on screen in a tight frame between the official seal of the White House and the American flag.
