If you find yourself uttering that old chestnut, “Kids today, they grow up so fast,” then you might actually be onto something. At least according to professional young person Kendall Jenner. The 19-year-old reality star — and, I guess, model or something — writes in a new column for the Wall Street Journal’s magazine, “I feel like I grew up too fast a long time ago.” Let all the particulars of that sentence sink in for a moment. The “a long time ago” part, the fact that it’s in WSJ magazine, the fact that she wrote a column for said magazine. I’ll understand if you just want to go back to bed.

As for that impending birthday? “Having older siblings, you grow up around adults, so you mature more quickly. I saw my sisters and parents working every day, so I was pretty much brought up to be a workaholic. But I just turned 19 a couple weeks ago, and I’m scared to be 20—it’s the first step out of being a teenager,” she says, though I’m worried about her work ethic if those are her role models when it comes to being employed. Either way, she’s paying attention: “My sister Khloé always says to me and my younger sister, Kylie, ‘You have your whole life to be an adult but only so long to be a kid.’ And we get it. In the right situations, I try to be as immature as I can sometimes — react to things as if I were 12.”

Kids these days.
