Kids take surfing lessons during Online Safety Week

With the Internet ingrained in our daily lives, safer surfing is a priority.

That’s why Online Safety Week has become an annual event to educate children on safe practices.

Willowpark Grade 6 students were in attendance yesterday to learn of the dangers of Internet use.

“I’ve learned that you shouldn’t be on websites where you have to give personal information (in order) to be on,” said Brielle Mitchell.

The risks have grown for children with access to Internet in the home, said Ward 12 Ald. Ric McIver, deputy mayor, at Southcentre mall for the Online Safety Week kickoff.

“Even in their own home when they feel safe, strangers are there because of the Internet,” said McIver.
