Knoxdale-Merivale councillor Hunter not seeking re-election

Anyone hoping to become the councillor for Knoxdale-Merivale Ward will need a strong resumé of working in the community.

That’s the advice Gord Hunter has given to potential candidates looking to take his seat at the council table.

After a 30-year career in municipal politics, Hunter announced he would not be seeking re-election.

“The Nepean tradition is to elect a person to council that has experience in a community association,” said Hunter. “Don’t expect, coming out of the blue, that people are going to trust that you are able to serve.”

Looking to the challenges ahead for next term, Hunter said he hopes the redevelopment of Lansdowne Park is settled before the end of this term, but he hopes people seriously re-examine the feasibility of a downtown tunnel and the length of the rail line.
