The first round of the NFL Draft is three weeks away and the New York Jets took another step towards compiling their dossier of the available talent on Thursday with a Pro Day for local prospects. The organization hosted a number of prospects from the area at the team’s facility, having them fill out paperwork and do drills in their field house.

As reported by Metro New York on Wednesday, Cole Farrand (linebacker, Maryland), Lorenzo Waters (safety, Rutgers), Kevin Haplea (tight end, Florida State) and Robert Walsh (defensive end, Syracuse) were all slated to attend the event. In addition, sources tell Metro New York that Tyler Kroft (tight end, Rutgers) as well as Betim Bujari (center, Rutgers), Jeremy Crayton (safety, Southern Arkansas State), Kristjan Sokoli (defensive end, Buffalo), Tyson Chandler (defensive tackle, North Carolina State), Carlif Taylor (Southern Connecticut State, defensive tackle) and Neil Sterling (wide receiver, Monmouth) all were a part of the event.

The players filled out paperwork and did about 20 minutes of positional drills as part of the day.

By and large, the athletes were all local and a relatively short-drive to the team’s facility. Some such as Farrand, who lives about 15 minutes from the facility, are drawing interest with the New England Patriots reportedly impressed from his recent Pro Day at Maryland. Crayton as well is recently garnering interest as an undrafted free agent possibility for several teams.

Jets get preseason slate

The Jets announced on Thursday their four preseason opponents. They’ll open preseason at the Detroit Lions and then don’t leave the area for the rest of the exhibition game slate. In succession they’ll host the Atlanta Falcons, play at the New York Giants in a game at MetLife Stadium and then will be the home team a few days later against the Philadelphia Eagles.
