Kwong recovering after having surgery

Alberta’s lieutenant governor will be out of the spotlight for at least four weeks after undergoing surgery on Wednesday.

Norman Kwong will not be performing his ceremonial and social duties during his recovery period, but he will continue to complete his constitutional duties as he rests in a Calgary hospital.

Kwong went through the surgery to have a small cancerous growth removed, which was discovered through routine blood work.

Janet Resta from the office of the lieutenant governor said that Kwong and his wife are very happy with the success of the surgery and grateful to the team of doctors and nurses responsible for his care.

“He’s in very good spirits today,” she said. “His sense of humour made it through the surgery completely intact.”

Resta said the Kwongs are looking forward to getting back to routine as soon as they can.

Kwong assumed office as the 16th lieutenant governor of Alberta in January 2005.
