Ladies flock to National Women’s Show for girl’s day out

The National Women’s Show brought a girl’s day out to Lansdowne Park Saturday and yesterday, and with the exception of the odd good sport of a boyfriend or husband, it was difficult to spot a man in attendance who wasn’t working at one of the booths.

Some 150 vendors displayed their wares in different zones such as including World of Taste, Fashion and Style, Beauty and Wellness, and Career and Business. Event stages offered fashion shows and cooking and ballroom dancing demonstrations.

Special guests included Olympic skater and ovarian cancer spokesperson Elizabeth Manley and Canadian singer-songwriter Joe Taylor.

Some exhibitors were thinking pink to attract customer attention, like Booty Camp Fitness, which dressed staff in pink drill sergeant camouflage.

On the more soberly dressed side of the hall, uniformed recruiters from the Canadian Forces and the RCMP were looking for a few good women.

The variety of wares on offer was considerable, with luxurious 1,200 thread count Egyptian cotton sheets sold just across the aisle from the Slap Chop, the cut-rate kitchen utensil advertised on late-night TV.
