For the third straight year, the Saint Mary’s Huskies will face the St. Francis Xavier X-Men in the Loney Bowl.
The first-place Huskies enjoyed a bye week Saturday while the X-Men were pushed to the brink of disaster in the Atlantic University Sport football semifinals in Antignoish.
The second-place X-Men (6-2) narrowly edged the No. 3 Acadia Axemen (2-6) 33-30, falling behind 17-2 after the first half and trailing 30-16 with six minutes left.
But a staggering late comeback — courtesy of Steve Snyder touchdown passes to Akeem Foster at 9:10 and Peter Giannikopolous at 13:03, as well as the game-winning field goal from Anthony Alix with 19 seconds left — propelled the X-Men into the AUS final yet again.
The Loney Bowl is on Saturday at 1 p.m. at Huskies Stadium.
