The Eagles came to terms with veteran guard Matt Tobin Monday, according to ESPN’s Phil Sheridan, who says the 26-year-old has agreed to a deal that will lower his cap hit.

He was scheduled to make $1.67 million on a free-agent tender. He will compete for the right guardposition on the offensive line but faces a bit of an uphill battle againstStefen Wisniewski and third-round draft pick Isaac Seumalo. The other guard spot will be occupied by free agent acquisition Brandon Brooks who signed a $40 million deal this offseason.

In 2014, Tobin appeared in seven games and last year appeared in 13.

Panthers cut Brandon Boykin

The Birdshave a lot of unknowns at cornerback and could be interested in reuniting with Brandon Boykin, the former nicklewho was shipped to the Steelers as part of a last-minute trade last offseason.

With the Panthers, Boykin was cut prior to OTAsgiving him a chance to find another job elsewhere.

The Panthers have an excess of talent at the position, while the Eagles will likely rely heavily on second year corner Eric Rowe and a menagerie of free agents such asLeodis McKelvin and Ron Brooks (each reuniting with Jim Schwartz from Buffalo).

Mark Sanchez needs surgery

Many were impressed with Howie Roseman found a trade partner for Mark Sanchez a few months go to open the roster a bit for the Eagles at quarterback.

So it comes as a bit of relief that the backup — who appeared in 13 games for the Eagles over the last two seasons — is getting surgery elsewhere and not in Philly.

The quarterback will miss some OTA time, but shouldn’t miss much more as he recovers from surgery to repair a ligament in his left, non-throwing hand.
