The provincial legislature will recall for a quick, one-day session on June 25th.
The incoming NDP government announced the special sitting yesterday, saying it is necessary to elect presiding officials and establish committees of the House of Assembly.
The province’s new MLAs will also be sworn in at a ceremony before the house sits. Premier-designate Darrell Dexter will be sworn in by the Lieutenant Governor this Friday. Dexter will also be announcing his new 12-member cabinet at the public ceremony, which takes place at the Cunard Centre, starting at 6 p.m.
Dexter has said a brief legislature session would be necessary in the short-term to take care of housekeeping matters. A longer sitting may have to wait until a budget is in place, which could be the fall.
