Leiby Kletzky murder: Who is Levi Aron?

Even after his bizarre confession, we’re still no closer to knowing what
made Levi Aron kill 8-year-old Leiby Kletzky. Facts about the man are
hard to come by, but here’s what we do know:

Police said Aron did not have a prior record, other than one summons for public urination.

Aron is an Orthodox Jew, and he reportedly worked for a Brooklyn maintenance supply business, where he appeared for work Tuesday.

He suffered brain injuries as a child in a car crash, according to the Daily News, and has been described by those who know him as “slow.”

He was known to be slightly odd, his neighbors told MyFox New York:

A mother of four says she saw Aron around the neighborhood and thought he was strange, but harmless. Now she’s upset she and her kids were so close to what she called “pure evil.”

According to the NY Post, some parents found it odd in the way Aron gave neighborhood kids rides in his Honda Prelude and the way he would stare at local elementary school students in a playground.

An alternative view of the man comes from his ex-wife, Debbie Aron, who married Levi in 2006 after meeting him on a Jewish dating site. According to Fox, Debbie was taken completely surprise by the news that her ex had been arrested:

The pair didn’t have any kids together but he did help raise her two kids, from another relationship.

Says she was in “utter disbelief” when she found out about the crime.

Says he was quiet, loved karaoke and was good with her kids. She says she never saw any red flags.

Aron’s Facebook page is private, but his LinkedIn account still lists him as a Security Office in Memphis.
