Christopher McPartlin and Lisa McAlly share their outrage at Robert Pickton’s second-degree murder conviction outside the Carnegie Community Centre in the Downtown Eastside.
Some in the Downtown Eastside say their postal code led to Robert Pickton being convicted of the lesser charge of second-degree murder.
Christopher McPartlin knew Andrea Joesbury, Sereena Abotsway, Marnie Frey and Mona Wilson.
“If these women were from (the) North Shore it would be first-degree murder,” he said.
Lisa McAlly agreed.
“If it wasn’t premeditated why would he do that to so many women? My first thought was that it was because they were addicts and people thought they played a role in their own deaths.”
“I feel bad for the families. I don’t feel they truly got justice,” McAlly said.
A woman who claimed she is a family member of Georgina Papin and who refused to give out her name said Pickton should have been convicted of first-degree murder on all counts.
“It’s a disgrace,” she said tearfully. “No one has the right to take away a woman’s life. This is not justice for women at all.”
