Though it’s been around for two years, Pizzeria Libretto is jam-packed no matter what time you go. It’s a place to go to be seen, to say you’ve been. It’s cool and laid back but frenetic and loud at the same time.
The prices aren’t bad though. The Lunch Prix Fixe ($15) is 3-courses. Great. I’m starving. I start with an Arugula Salad — lightly dressed with tons of walnuts, Piave cheese and thin, crisp pear slices. And a big portion too. Mmm.
The Margherita Pizza is disappointing though. The crust is limp and quite blackened and the tomato sauce is bland. How can these be San Marzano tomatoes? For a place that “makes the only certified Vera Pizza Napoletana in Toronto,” it is a real letdown. I know it’s meant to be simple, but does that have to mean flavourless?
I ask for my biscotti to go. I’ve had enough.
