An all-inclusive rental

It’s nice to offer overnight guests something more than a sofa bed, but renting an apartment with an extra bedroom for visitors is something of an indulgence these days. Park87, a newly built apartment building in North Cambridge, solves the problem with an on-site self-contained guest suite.

“It’s like a hotel suite, only cheaper,” says Eric Hamelburg, Park87’s manager. Tenants can book the three-room suite for $50 per night, plus a onetime $25 cleaning fee. “So the in-laws don’t have to stay in your apartment,” he jokes.

Also, after moving in, should tenants want to add an extra bedroom or an office, 80 percent of the units at Park87 have moveable walls that can be knocked down to reconfigure certain floor plans. The common area in the building includes a community room with a kitchen and patio, which is also available for hire. “You can have the family over for Thanksgiving without cramming them into your apartment,” adds Hamelburg.

Other features of this pet-friendly building include a modular construction, which means each unit is built as its own single family house with an individual heating and air conditioning system. It’s a healthier option that helps with allergies and, as Hamelburg points out, “You don’t smell what people are cooking as you walk down the corridors.”

Directly opposite the property is the dog-friendly Danehy Park; Fresh Pond reservation, which is off-leash to Cambridge residents, is a five-minute walk away. Other amenities within walking distance include Alewife Train Station, a multiplex cinema, Whole Foods Market, Trader Joe’s, Blockbuster and several restaurants — including the original Jasper White’s Summer Shack.
Did we mention the kitchen sink is included, too?
