Annual fall block party will take over Frederick, Maryland
What started as a one-off celebration of downtown Frederick, Maryland, 25 years ago has morphed into an annual festival that attracts 70,000 people.
It’s called “In the Street.” On Sept.15, the historic downtown of this city an hour west of Baltimore stages a block party like no other.
Each street has a different theme. Some are predictable displays of handicrafts and kids’ activities, but it’s much broader overall.
Try roller derby, learn a dance routine, register to vote, enjoy a chair massage, meet wedding planners, get tips on green building, meet guide dogsand climb inside rescue vehicles. About 30 restaurants serve everything from ice cream toThai takeout.
Five stages promise continuous entertainment.
There are three beers gardens, one of which is family-friendly.
