Facebook set to launch Snapchat competitor to destroy Snapchat (maybe)

For three years, Snapchat has been the go-to service if you wanted to send out naked pictures but didn’t want them to get spread around, thus tarnishing your sterling reputation. Well, if recent reports are to be believed, the picture and video sharing service could soon face some stiff competition from everyone’s favorite way to read humblebrags, Facebook.

The company is reportedly preparing a similar service called Slingshot, which will allow you to, uh, sling shots of your privates without fear of repercussion. It’s been in the works since Snapchat declined a three billion purchase offer from the social media giant. The word is this will be a standalone app and not integrated into the Facebook experience, so you don’t have to worry about spamming your great Aunt with pictures. If only this was around for Anthony Weiner.

Of course, the launch has not been formally announced by Zuckerberg and company so they may decide to let Snapchat keep their slice of the self-destructible selfie pie.
