Avocado Toast

What’s for brunch folks? Avocado toast with a side of business meeting. How about a mid-afternoon snack? Well, avocado toast sure tastes good with that cup of iced coffee. Quickie dinner? You guessed it, we’re gonna treat ourselves to some avocado toast to rescue us from cooking at home.

It turns out, all those servings of crispy bread smothered in rich and creamy avocados seriously addsup. The credit card processing company Square looked at numbers from vendors around the country and revealed that as of this June, folks in the United States were spending at least $900,000 per month on the epicurean delight. Back in June 2014, when they first started tracking the on-trend treat, our lovely country was clocking in at only around $17,000 a month. Unicorn drinks may come and go, but man is this bready bite enduring!

It’s worth noting that the data only looked at companies that use Square to process transactions, but we’re still amazed: That is a lot of avocado toast. In fact, Square found that the average price of the runaway hit dish is $6.78. If you’re buying the meal at that figure, that’s about 132,743 avocado toast purchases made each month.

Shoutout to Square for giving us a reason to daydream about the breakfast, lunch, dinnertime and snack time staple. Right now, we can’t stop thinking about a thick slab of multigrain toast in a blanket of velvety avocados, a generous drizzle of good quality olive oil, a few flakes of sea salt, freshly cracked black pepper, a splash of tangy balsamic vinegar and a sprinkling of red chile pepper flakes. Pair that with a healthy smoothie to beat the summer’s brutal heat, and you’ve got a match made in absolute heaven. Which of course includes avocado toast…
