Ferreira stands proudly outside of his new shop. Ferreira stands proudly outside of his new shop.

Years of experience running his design business prepared interior decorator Jeff Ferreira for delays in opening his first store, Well-Lived, which is located in Beverly Farms. But as the last pieces of his own interior decorating are put in place, excitement of opening this month replaces any frustrations.

“It’s already taken twice as long as I thought,” sighs Ferreira. “It’s the small things that take the most time and it’s the small things that matter most,” he adds sagely.

Well-Lived is all about the little ideasthat make a house your home. Antique and vintage goodies will make up most of the store’s wares. As more and more people comfortably mix vintage into their home décor, Ferreira hopes he can showcase often-heavier antiques as a cool, modern design option.

“Vintage in today’s homes is commonplace, but antiques get people a little nervous,” the 41-year-old says. “I want to show that older pieces can really work with contemporary. I still want clean lines and I look for particular antiques. Some antiques are made of darker woods and are heavier. The ones I look for don’t have too much embellishment. I want to show people how their grandma’s 17th-century server can have a bold abstract painting hanging above it and work beautifully,” he says.

Along with lamps, knick-knacks and furniture, Well-Lived offers a bespoke upholstery service.

“I have a fantastic local upholsterer I work with,” Ferreira says. “I want to keep that to being more price conscious though. Not everyone wants a $15,000 custom couch.”

Indeed they don’t.

“I want to translate their design, their piece of furniture for less cost.”

Well-Lived welcomes browsers:

“All retailers want to sell something, that’s how we run a business,” Ferreira says. “But I’m happy if people come in and take away only inspiration. I know that if they feel comfortable and find something that inspires them, they’ll return for more and might find the object they need.”
