Long-time Coram resident Patricia Argentina likes the laid-back feeling in Coram where she opened Dollies Barber and Hair Salon (25 Gibbs Rd.) just six months ago. “We’re a community,” she says, pointing to the hundreds of co-ops, condos and rental units along Gibbs Road, part of various groups including North Isle Village, Long Island’s largest co-op and rental organization.

“This is a nice, safe area and it’s perfect if you love the water,” Argentina says. She frequently goes to Port Jefferson, about five miles north of Coram, which overlooks Long Island Sound. Sometimes she heads to the Patchogue waterfront, which is about 10 miles south.

Coram’s closeness to both the North and South shores is also a major plus for town resident Bobby Parker, 18. “There’s not a lot of stuff to do in Coram, but we are near a lot of stuff, so it’s okay,” he says. He and his best friend Dominic Delledonne like to catch films at Movieland (1850 Rte. 112).
