The Google One storage service has officially launched and if you’ve been using Google Drive storage to save your documents, photos and videos, the company has rebranded the cloud-based online storage to Google One and is offering cheaper plans for those who need extra storage space to store and backup your files.

The company announced the new service back in May and if you were already a Drive user, you had the opportunity to upgrade to the new service early. On Wednesday, the company launched the storage service for everyone in the U.S.

Google One and Google Drive: What’s the difference?

If you already use Google Drive, you might not notice many differences with the new service. However, if you’re using the paid membership, you will notice you’ll be able to get more a storage at a lower price.

How much does Google One cost?

If you decide to sign up for a membership, here are some things you need to know before you sign up, including pricing and how much storage you get can get.

Google still gives you 15GB of storage for free, which is suitable for storage of Google Docs and other small files, but if you’re looking for a little more storage for photos and video, Google has a 100GB plan that costs $1.99 per month and 200GB of storage for $2.99 per month.

For photographers and multimedia professionals looking to back up their work in the cloud, Google offers a 2TB plan for $9.99. This seems to be the best deal because it’s the same price for 1TB on Google Drive.

The company also offers 10, 20 and 30TB plans if you’re looking for more storage. The 10TB plan is $99.99 per month, 20TB is $199.99 and the 30TB Google One storage plan is $299.99 per month.

According to Google, you can invite up to five family members to your storage plan and share storage space. The shareable storage option is available for Google One memberships at the 100 GB plan and higher. At the 100 GB Google One membership level, each member gets 15 GB of storage reserved for them by default. Once you go over the 15 GB it begins to count against the available shared storage.

Membership perks

If you sign up for Google One you’ll have direct access to Google experts who can help troubleshoot any issues with the Google One service. According to Google, it plans to offer benefits to other products, such as Google Play credits and special deals on hotel pricing.
