Miss America pageant winnerKira Kazantsev quietly deleted her LinkedIn profile this week after her work history came under attack by conservative critics.

Many of the pageant winner's critics on social media took issue with the fact that Kazantsev spent a semester interning with her local Planned Parenthood affiliate in Nassau County, New York. Shortly after the 23-year-old's pageant win, she began receiving a stream of vitriolic social media posts attacking her for interning with the family planning nonprofit.

In an editorial in The Daily Beast, Planned Parenthood's Vice President for Communications Eric Ferrero noted thatKazantsev first became involved with Planned Parenthood two years ago, when the then-Hofstra University student attended a conference in Washington, DC for affiliate staff members. According to Ferrero, "At the time, she was working with an organization that was working with a few dozen of our peer educators, known as promotores, who provide culturally appropriate information and education in their communities."

Planned Parenthood was quick to defend Kazantsev, with Ferrero writing that the organization was very proud of its former intern for her accomplishments. "we are proud of Kira Kazantsev — for what she contributed to Planned Parenthood, what she learned at Planned Parenthood, and what she’s teaching young women today about standing strong behind their beliefs and aspirations," he wrote.
