Big brands are infiltrating Brooklyn. First Diesel opened up a pop up at 101 Bedford Ave. and last friday, J.Crew opened the doors to its new location at 234 Wythe Ave.in Williamsburg.
This marks the first-ever Brooklyn location for the preppy American retailer, who is doing its best to cozy up to its neighbors. Opening festivities included bitesby smaller businesses in the areaand free goodies — including a tote bag by graffiti artist Greg LaMarche. J.Crew also collaborated with local artists to create the neighborhood-specific look of the space. Naomi Reis created a jungle- like collage and the fitting rooms are outfitted by custom cement stools by AMMA Studios.
"I’ve lived in Brooklyn, I know people want it to feel local, they want it to feel intimate. I think we’ve made a concerted effort to try and be respectful and thoughtful of the community and, you know, try to come in gently," said Creative Director, Jenna Lyons in an interview with Brooklyn Magazine.
