Finally – something at NYFW we can actually buy now. Marchesa Voyage founders Georgina Chapman and Keren Craig teamed up with ShopStyle to release six unique pieces in a capsule collection launching September 9. The designers hosted an exclusive event yesterday to give editors and celebrities including Olivia Palermo, Jamie Chung and Peyton List a sneak peek. We chatted with Chapman and Craig while purusing the six looks, inspired by their global travels.
What is the inspiration behind the capsule collection?
GeorginaChapman: We just really wanted to put our signature designs into a capsule collection that was at a great price point. It’s still showcasing what we love about Marchesa, which is embroidery and prints – the same things we use on the runway.
What are some of your favorite fall trends?
Keren Craig: [With Fashion Week], we’re into spring now! But we are excited about the fall Marchesa collection coming out, once it’s cold enough to wear it!
What do you think of the whole normcore trend?
GC: What is that?
It’s a more relaxing way of dressing with sweatshirts, sneakers and Birkenstock.
GC: I think Birkenstocks are very practical. They remind me of traveling. I actually traveled all through theHimalayas wearing them.
KC: I haven’t embraced it this time around, but I think I have in the past. That’s the thing with trends, they come and go.
How did you say farewell to summer? Did you do anything for Labor Day?
GC: We’re not saying goodbye!
KC: We never say goodbye to summer. Maybe once we finish all the shows.
Have you seen any street style looks in particular you really liked?
GC: We travel a lot and street style is something that as a designer is really inspiring. We’re going to London next week and I love the street style there.
