Newton Kitchens & Design owner talks shop

Newton Kitchens & Design might have only come into existence at the end of last year, but the store amounts to decades of experience from new business partners Pierre Matta and Gail Rice.

Matta is a seasoned kit-chen remodeler and custom cabinet-maker. Rice’s Resource Design sat in the space prior, and her résumé includes work on the design of Faneuil Hall Marketplace. They pooled resources to pair homeowners with everyone from architects to artisans, particularly for the most-used and trickiest of areas: the kitchen.

“It really is one of the hardest things to get right,” says Matta. “It’s so personal.”

The store itself is conveniently positioned near several other home-inclined businesses, including electrical, plumbing and tile vendors. Shoppers get a useful home improvement and design center.

“I asked the other store-owners if they wanted to network and share clients,” says Matta. “It makes sense for us and for our clients.”

Matta says it comes down to relationships and craftsmanship, which he thinks is sorely lacking in these days of Craigslist cowboys.

“If you compromise craftsmanship, then in just a short time you’ll see wear,” he adds. “I give a lifetime guarantee on my work.”
