Lela Rose’s inspiration is … molecular gastronomy, which is just too much to process right now.

A sigh of relief as we realize that LR’s designs are not nearly as mind-boggling as the cuisine that inspired them. An easy checked boucle suit opens the show, followed by striped knit dresses, tweed trousers and mohair coats. And then there’s the parade of flouncy organza and chiffon frocks — one, a gold-dusted floral gazar gown with a full skirt and train, screams Kerry Washington. A few of the motifs felt a little stale — enough with the peek-a-boo black lace and peplums already — but Lela Rose has never been about reinventing the wheel, and much of this pretty, uncomplicated collection felt just right for a Sunday morning.
