Leave it to Rihanna — who always manages to push boundaries and look cool (have you seen the video for "Pour it Up"?) — to cause the interwebs to blow up over a hairdo. Last night, at the 2013 American Music Awards, the pop star (who took home the Best Soul/ R & B Female Artist award along with the ceremony's first-ever Icon Award) sported a doobie wrap with her sexy two-piece Jean Paul Gaultier ensemble. The style, which looks like a perfectly chic updo, caused a commotion since it’s how most women of color throw their hair up after a salon visit, to keep it straight. It’s the equivalent of accepting an award with your hair still in rollers, or if you’re us, a shower cap. But somehow Ri Ri magically made the style look like something a princess would wear to a gala. Those gorgeous pearl pins helped. It reminded us of when J.Lo first flaunted her baby hairs. We’re just interested to see if this common urban style will make its way to the masses.
